Smart kids play wrong notes…

…and great teachers like it.

I have a 7 year old student who knows Ode to Joy so well, he can improvise a wrong note anywhere in the piece, in substitute for the right one.  This exemplifies the heart of the wrong-note-approach.   A student who knows their music so well, they can play a restricted aspect of it wrong on purpose.

This approach is a mind-set that supports three goals.

1. To show students how to “self-teach”.

2. To ensure beyond a doubt the student understands the musical concepts.

3. To be holistic, experimental and inspired in this process.
